Buenos Aires kid who dreams of playing for Ireland
A new name for you, Patricio Schroeder (17, GK) of Argentinean side Gimnasia whose mother comes from Kilrea in Derry and who grew up on the same street as Martin O'Neill. Patricio signed for the Primera División club last year and has already trained with the first team as well as making several appearances for their reserve side. The best thing of course is that he wants to play for the Boys in Green and has admitted that one of his biggest inspirations is Caoimhin Kelleher.
Patricio’s dad is Argentinian and he met his wife while working in Ireland. Patricio's older brother was born here but he himself was born in Buenos Aires. The draw for the old country it seems is strong though:
My family go to visit Ireland early summer for a month and although I haven’t been since 2019 because of football, I love the country and have great memories of summers there. I want to go again soon but hopefully it will because I’m representing Ireland. 🧤 ☘️
