Evan Ferguson is a West Ham player
It had been flagged for a number of days, before which there was talk that 20-year-old Ireland striker Evan Ferguson could be on his way to Bayer Leverkusen, Marseille, Everton, Arsenal, Celtic…but West Ham were always in the mix and with the added advantage of having Ferguson’s old manager at Brighton Graham Potter at the helm. So a loan spell at the Hammers until the end of the season just adds up.
Evan has scored just one goal for Brighton in 13 Premier League appearances this season and even taking into account some wretched injuries that is just not him. West Ham have thrown him a lifeline for 2024/25 however and the Meathman has until the summer with his new club to show us the striker we all know he is. And we need him with World Cup qualification coming later in the year, not to mention a Nations League play-off next month.
Back in 2021 Graham Potter gave Evan Ferguson his start in the Premier League, let’s hope he can repeat the trick again. ☘️⚒️
Soon after the announcement Evan gave about his initial impressions of his move to the London Stadium.
I can see and know how big West Ham United is. It was a big opportunity for me to come here. I know the gaffer well and look forward to working under him again. I want to come in and do my best for the Club, score goals, and see where we get to.
Graham Potter also gave his reaction to the arrival of Ferguson to West Ham:
I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Evan in on loan until the end of the season,” said Potter. “He’s a player we obviously know very well, so I’m grateful to the Board for bringing him in. He’s got plenty of quality attributes as a striker that we believe will benefit the group over the course of the coming months.
And there were reassuring words from Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler about Evan’s move:
Evan has had a frustrating 12 months with injuries and for him to get back to the level he’s capable of and to continue his development he really needs to be playing regularly. This loan gives him that opportunity, and under a manager he knows well. We are looking forward to watching Evan’s progress over the next few months, and we wish him well.
