Kyle Fitzgerald signs for Newcastle from Galway United
Galway United winger (on the left) Kyle Fitzgerald has officially signed for Newcastle United after turning 18 at the end of January. Brexit rules prevented the signing of contracts before now but Newcastle has been tracking the forward for some time. He is believed to have been offered a two-and-a-half year deal.
Wolves and Brighton were also interested in the Ireland youth international but Kyle will instead be joining fellow young Boys in Green Reece Byrne, Alex Murphy (now on loan at Bolton), Rory Finneran and Cathal Heffernan at St. James's Park. Kyle will initially join the Magpies U21 squad who play in the Premier League 2 and are managed by Killarney born former Ireland U21 Diarmuid O’Carroll.
Fitzgerald is a current Ireland U19 who has played through all the age groups for Ireland started out at Mervue United in Galway city before joining Galway United who he made his senior debut with last April. ☘️
