Transfer Deadline Day Live 🟢
By 11pm today all of the big leagues in Europe (England, Italy, Spain, Germany, France) will close their transfer windows. Follow the transfers/rumours involving Irish players as they happen on this page. Look out for the 🟢 below which indicates confirmed moves.
23:00: St. Mirren made a last ditch attempt to get striker Johnny Kenny (21) on loan from Celtic but the Hoops were not for budging with the former Sligo Rovers man now seen as direct back up for Adam Idah.
22:55: 🟢 Limerick lad Dara Costelloe (22, CF) has left it late but is a Northampton Town player until the end of the season from Burnley. He agreed a new contract with the Clarets into the bargain. We did a little piece on Dara.👏
22:50: 🟢 This could possibly be the last bit of action of this transfer window involving Irish players as Ireland U21 left-back Tayo Adaramola has agreed a loan with Bradford City until the end of the season from Crystal Palace. ☘️
22.45: 🟢It’s a late one but Gavin Bazunu is a Standard Liege player until the end of the season. Read more!
20:40: 🟢 25-year-old Anthony Scully is back at Colchester United for the second half of the season on loan from Portsmouth. The former Ireland U21 has spent some there in the first half too but injury forced him back to Pompey.
18:27: 🟢 Really good news for John Egan who has a new club in Hull City as he switches from Burnley on a permanent deal. More on John’s transfer here.
18:20: 19-year-old former Cobh Ramblers centre-half Gabriel Otegbayo has signed a new contract with Sheffield Wednesday after impressing in the first half of the season. Great to see after Gabriel had been released by Burnley last summer. 👏
18:15: 🟢 19-year-old midfielder 19-year-old Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh has joined Accrington Stanley on loan from Southampton until the end of the season. Let’s be havin’ a bit of League Two football Joe!
17:25: 🟢 19-year-old midfielder Darius Lipsiuc has joined League Two’s Walsall on loan until the end of the season from Stoke City. Darius joined the Potters from St. Pat’s last year and has already made his first team debut in the League Cup. This should get him lots more first-team minutes.
17:05: With Gavin Bazunu unable to play for Southampton’s first team this season he is looking to Belgium and Standard Liège to secure a loan move.
16:02: Championship high flyers Sunderland put in an £8 million bid for Ireland midfielder Kasey McAteer but it was turned down by Leicester City. 🤯
15:59: 🟢 20-year-old defender Alix Mendez has left Cork City for Aberdeen who play in the Scottish Premier League (currently 8th).
15:45: 🟢 25-year-old former Bohemians striker Ali Reghba has joined NK Maribor in Slovenia from Macedonian club Rabotnicki. Ali made 10 appearances for Ireland at U19s (1 goal) taking up with Leicester City from Bohs in 2019.
14:03: 🟢 Finally it’s official, Evan Ferguson is a West Ham player until the end of the season on a loan deal from Brighton. Read all about the move.
12:30: Still not official but there is a leak…
12.24: Strong rumours that Ireland U21/Crystal Palace left-back Tayo Adaramola could be about to join Calum Kavanagh at Bradford City on loan.
12:01: Looks like 32-year-old John Egan is joining Hull City from Burnley this transfer window. Hasn’t really happened for the Ireland defender at the Clarets with just 7 appearances this season, six as substitute and only one start.
11:50am: Sheffield United have been knocked back for a second time in relation to QPR defender Jimmy Dunne and that is looking like the end of their interest. Dunne (27) is a centre-half but has been playing well at right-back for QPR this season.
11:45am: Evan Ferguson to West Ham announcement is imminent! Everything is in place.
11:31am: 🟢 Former Ireland U21 winger Alex Gilbert (23) has signed for Charlton on loan from Middlesbrough. Has played 10 times for Middlesbrough this season but this should ensure plenty more game time for the attacker. More info on the move.
11.19am: Though it doesn’t appear like he is too enthused about it Middlesbrough are looking to take Ireland midfielder Will Smallbone (24) out on loan from Southampton for the rest of the season. He’d be lining up alongside Finn Azaz in the middle of the pitch if it happens!
11:01am: Looks like Limerick lad Dara Costelloe (22, CF) is off to Northampton Town in League One from parent club Burnley. Dara was recalled early from a loan spell at Fleetwood Town last month.
10:08am: Stade De Reims have sacked their coach Luka Elsner, with Samba Diawara taking over. So not transfer news but might impact on our two at the Ligue 1 club John Joe Patrick Finn and Ike Orazi.
9:37am: 🟢 16-year-old midfielder Matteo Secondino from Sligo has signed for Czech side FK Teplice. The Sligo native was with Sligo Rovers academy before moving to Mayo FC this time last year. FK Teplice play in the Czech top tier and are fully professional.
8.40am: What to expect, at the very least Evan Ferguson to be announced as a West Ham player and Kyle Fitzgerald’s transfer from Galway United to Newcastle United to be officially announced. Going by previous years there is likely to be quite a number of other Irish moves, including some unexpected ones.
